I think I have solved all the big problems for this revision, now I get to start the read-aloud final pass. This is intended to catch all the grammar boo-boos and it works pretty well at catching typos as well. It’s going to take a while to read 150~175k words but there’s no point in wasting time. I want to get this done and mailed out so someone else can reject it instead of me rejecting myself.
I also want to see if I can add more ‘sense words’ per page. I tend to write visual and physical (touch) words a lot but there are three other senses (four if you’re psychic). I want to make the story as immersive as I can.
Speaking of immersion, I’ve decided not to keep on with the first draft of The Mageborn Mechanic until I’ve finished this final draft. That will give me one heck of an incentive (I’m burning to write this story. I want to see if it’s any good.) and it will keep me from losing momentum on my writing and my editing.
Not a lot else to update you on. I finished another writing book, Write Tight. I may review it, it’s not bad but it didn’t hit me where I live. I also read Sasha by Joel Shepherd, which I really disliked. I’m debating posting a review about it. I don’t really enjoy writing negative reviews. For one thing, it’s hard to read someone tearing down your work, even if I feel it’s deserved. Another is that writing negative reviews of writers who, after all have managed to get book contracts, may well bite me in the ass. After all, you never know when you might bump into the writer again. Now, I’d never write a review I wouldn’t be willing to say to the author’s face but still…
I guess I’m regretting some of the comments I made about Sam Sykes’ Tome of the Undergates. After all, I enjoyed reading it (unlike Sasha) but the negative feedback may loom to large. I don’t want to even get into the drama my negative review of Story Engineering has caused. Jeeze, I swear that guy has his own cult.
