I’m writing a lot of Milleu stories so far*. I guess that’s because I enjoy worldbuilding. I’d like to do more Character pieces** so I’ll try to think of interesting characters as well as developing settings. This is good practice but I am starting to feel that having a few days to write a story is better than doing it in a rush. File that under ‘duh’, I guess :) Anyway, I look forward to fixing and submitting these stories.
On another, sadder note, Ray Bradbury is dead. Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke…most of the old masters are gone. But the beautiful thing is, their stories will always live. And they’ll live in them. That’s not really why I write but I do see the kind of immortality there. Farenheit 451 will always be there and Something Wicked This Way Comes will always be one of my favorite stories.
I don’t know if I’ll ever write something at that level but it’s something to shoot for, even if my favorite stories involve weapons, tough guys and women with more sex appeal than morality. Thanks to Ray Bradbury, I’ll know there is also room for Fathers and Sons as well as Swords and Dragons in fantasy. I’ll always be grateful for that.
Well, second week, we’ll see what happens.
