Why? Well, Fridays have been rough this month. Work and dog training lessons have basically killed those days dead (and took a few pot shots at me, as well). I’ve also been letting my stories expand to their ‘natural’ length, which is usually 5k-ish words. That’s not something I can bang out in two or so hours a day. Or, not unless I’m lucky/inspired/without distractions. And, in the interest of full disclosure, casual games haven’t helped one bit. (Bloons Tower Defense 5. Serious time sink)
I know better than to indulge the last one, I know better than to play games on my writing laptop. But, to be honest, sometimes I feel better after popping virtual balloons using a monkey, especially on work days. I didn’t get burnt out, exactly or run out of story ideas (dear God, no) but I did fall behind and couldn’t/wouldn’t make the sacrifices needed to get back on track again. It’s not like someone is paying me to do this.
Anyway, full post-mortem next week but I thought you should know. I AM still working on a couple of exciting stories that I’m happy with. So we’ll end the month well north of the mid-20’s at least.
