Balt tells a new story

Do you ever have the feeling that your first draft is going to suck? I am at the point where I am altering the original plot (giving Balt a better reason to be in the Dragon Rider lands in the process). I know what I want to say, I'm going to putting it on paper this morning/afternoon but I have this lingering feeling of dread.
And you know what, that's ok. You have to be bad to be better. You have to tell in order to know what to show. So I'm just going to get it out and get it going. If I work hard and have a little luck I should be able to complete this draft by next Monday. That's the goal.
I just need to remind myself that what's important is to get the story written. There will be time enough to learn how to product 'clean' first drafts after my next million words. So, Balt, you were saying?

I look forward to the day where I can write a first draft that needs minimal work. Sometimes, though, I think the some of the best insights--the one's you can't really foresee and plan into your first draft--come to you in hindsight, which requires that you do a little (or a lot of) editing to incorporate them. Sometimes it may require that you scrap everything you've written so far and start from scratch, which can feel like a monumental step backwards rather than forwards--until you finally write it and realize it was exactly what your story needed.

I think the writing process is a lot like what they say about life: It can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.

Anyhow, good luck in completing your draft by Monday!
