I’m experimenting with writing on the bus during my daily commute. So far results are mixed. I’m not nearly as productive on a borrowed netbook as I am in the Throne of Writing(tm). In fact, the jostling and random movement on the bus tends to make me a bit nauseous. On the other hand, maybe I only get three pages down before I have to shut down the netbook but three pages is three pages. It makes me a bit more productive and that ain’t bad.
The ’30 in 30’ challenge is going well. I’ve only had one bad day so far where the time I spent writing did not result in a story. I have 11 stories done so far (the unfinished story threw me off again) and maybe half of them might be able to find a home in one pro market or another.
One fun thing is to pick a market, say Asimov’s, and try to write a story that is similar in tone to stuff they’re already publishing. I have no idea if this will work but I almost feel like I’m getting a head start on my eventual Clarion West attendance.
Tonight is IM gaming night but with a little luck and maybe some Dramamine I may still be able to get today’s story done.
