Here are my challenges. First, if I get interrupted, I totally loose focus. If I drop out of the 'zone', it is very hard for me to get back into it. So, since I get home before my wife does it FEELS like there's little point in writing since I'm going to be interrupted by her or by dinner. So I don't usually start writing until 7pm. That's two wasted hours right there. That's 4 to 5 pages, right there.
The next challenge the chapter 'stop'. When I reach a chapter ending, something in my switches off. Now I think I know the reason for that. I'm (apparently) a discovery writer. I need to think about how I want each chapter to start, to re-hook the reader. (Next draft I'll work on linking the end of one chapter to the beginning of the next. I like doing that.) I also need to decide what HAS to happen in the chapter to come. So I need some time to think before tackling the next chapter. No matter how good my outline is (and it is a big help), I can only use it as a guideline, apparently.
The final challenge: Master of Orion 1. Yep, fifteen year old game has me hooked. I got it and MOO 2 for $5. Incredible deal from www.goodoldgames.com but it is cutting into my writing time. I need to manage that.
On the plus side, I'm managing my internet usage, only using the internet for music and research while I'm writing.
So, there's a lot of work to do, on my novel and on myself as a writer.
