The scene with the Reaper caravan guards works pretty well. Personally, I like the Storm King reference and Jacob and Jael sheltering from the storm in a haystack. I remember what it was like to weather a big thunderstorm in my grandparents hayloft. The warmth and smell of the hay contrasting to the booming thunder and pelting rain. It's really a wonderful feeling to be dry and warm when it's stormy. I hope I captured part of that feeling. Maybe a little more polish to get there.
One thing I didn't have, back then, was someone to share that storm and that hay-warmth with. I imagine it being wonderfully intimate. Hopefully the readers will feel a little envious of Jacob, for the first time in a while, probably. Still more tuning to do and more polishing but from this point on, I'm pretty happy with the pace of the chapters. We'll see how they read.
