First of all, the confession: last night was the last Magic the Gathering gaming night for June, so no work done. Not proud of it, but there it is.
But I have been thinking about and planning the next few chapters. The next big scene is the confrontation with the Sorcerer. He's going to drop a few bombshells (figuratively, this time) that's just going to keep heaping trouble on Jacob's and Jael's budding relationship. Which is fine, adversity makes fulfillment later on all the sweeter. However, the boy is going to have questions for Jael. A LOT of questions. How do I manage that?
I am not a big fan of infodumping. Too much information all at once takes me out of a story. Sometimes it IS required and if it's done at the beginning of a chapter, I don't find it as jarring; mostly because I'm not fully immersed in the story at the beginning of a reading session.
So, my challenge is, in the conversations to come between Jacob and Jael, what questions should he ask? 'In character' he'd be asking a lot of stuff. But not everything he'd ask is plot-relevant. Some questions, I can keep in, they add to world-building and that's all to the good. However I'm thinking I'm going to have to trim or focus the Q&A to what is plot relevant. The story is already beginning to sprawl, no point in putting something in just to edit it out later.
