I went over my 'teaser' synopsis again last night. It feels a little like a pot-boiler to me but I'm willing to send it out so I can find out how I SHOULD have done it. Likewise, I think chapters 1 and 2 are ready for review as well. I did more fiddling with chapter 2, cutting and reworking about 11 pages. I think it reads a bit better now. We'll see.
I'm more than a little curious about how the Fairwood writer's conference at Norwescon will treat it. I know what I want to accomplish with chapter 1 and 2, we'll see if they think I succeeded.
I also did another read-over of the 'leaner, faster' chapter 3 and 4. It wasn't bad. It's radically different from my original chapter 3 but it moves. It has some good hooks. I think I'll keep going in this vein to get to the inciting incident and then turn it over to my writer's group to hear what they think about it.
I'm still of two minds about it. On the one hand, getting the 'show on the road' is laudable but what I really wanted was to have a more immersive story. I guess that's the tension between what I wanted to accomplish and what people want to read. On the third...mind, even Robert Jordan/James Rigney, who gets a lot of crap for rambling storylines, managed to write his first book pretty arrow-straight at his plot.
Well, we'll see what happens. To be honest, I'm about ready to write something else for a while, but we'll keep working on Angel Odyssey until it's done-ish.
