Yeah, I'm geeking out like crazy. I work at Amazon on the Kindle for Android team (among other stuff). Today I found out that George R. R. Martin is coming to Amazon to speak July 29th. I am...whew. Very excited.
I get a little frustrated with GRRM but I think he's one of the best writers I've EVER read and I'm not alone in that opinion. At Norwescon and at World Fantasy, George Martin is consistently considered one of the finest writers in the world by other professional authors.
When I was working at Google, I got to listen to Brandon Sanderson (back before he was THE Brandon Sanderson) and Neal Stephenson speak. This is just as cool, if not more so.
The only thing that would be cooler is if he were to be an instructor at Clarion West next year AND if I could manage to get in this time.
Whew. All this geeking out is giving me the vapors. I don't know what I'm more inspired to do: go buy a Dance with Dragons or go write my own kick-ass stuff. Maybe I'll do both after work tonight.
