Jeez, where did all this dust come from? This is the internet, there shouldn’t be dust everywhere. Or paperclips.
Yeah, the old blog has been let down by me. This was supposed to be for accountability in my writing career as much as for the entertainment of those confused souls who stumbled across it. I failed there, too. I’ll try to do better going forward, updating at least weekly on Fridays.
So what happened? Well, work mostly. Lots of pressure and stress at amazon. My writing time has been obliterated and I haven’t jealously guarded my non-work time, letting video games and fatigue gobble up the two hours or so I have between my work commute and blissful unconsciousness. Work isn’t going to get any easier, unless I change jobs, which I’d rather not do. So I have to do better at managing my time AND this blog.
Writing-wise, lots of rejections. I sent out a spate of old short stories again in March and April. So far, no bites but a few nice comments I don’t think are form letters. I need to write more and I intend to. Speaking of paperclips, I wrote a humorous sci-fi story a couple years ago called ‘Do Not Touch’. Just a little story about why you shouldn’t monkey with science experiments you don’t understand. I really like the story and it features paperclips. In space. But, just got rejected again. I still have hopes for it but I’m not sure which markets to send it to. I think I’m about out of pro Sci-Fi markets for it.
I have started reading again. My unread book pile now fills two boxes at home and that’s not even counting my kindle books. But I’m starting to whittle away at it. I’ll restart reviewing the books I finish, which should help with my accountability there as well
I may even try my hand a movie reviews. I don’t see a ton of movies, not like in the old days where I’d watch a movie at least every day. (I miss being poor and under-employed in some ways) But I do see a few films and I’d like to talk about them from a story viewpoint, since that’s what I care most about.
Those of you who stumble upon this, sorry I was quiet so long. I’ll try to do something about the dust as well.
