I started my final read-aloud editing pass last night. I got 30 pages done in an hour and a half. At this rate, if I’m lucky, I’ll be done 20 days. Grr. Tonight, I’ll keep a glass of water next to the Throne of Writing(tm). Reading aloud gets dry. I also need to get more done. This does work, though. I find typos and places where sentences should be rephrased (not too many, I'm happy to say). So this method of editing does work. It's just dry and slow work. Oh well, at least I get to practice doing funny voices for my characters. This way I'm also getting practice for doing readings.
On the whole, I’m happy with how the story is going. I’m interested in it, which doesn’t sound like much but when you’ve read this chapter over and over again in the past year, it’s a nice surprise. It feels like it drags a bit in places but I’m not sure if that’s because I’m reading it aloud and therefore going slower than I normally read. Not all books are meant to be read aloud. That might make a good experiment for a book in the future. Hmm.
