I got some very nice critiques of Chapter 1, some things got called out I need to take a closer look at. It’s always nice to have fresh eyes on something. Still, overall very positive. One new member apparently doesn’t like Fantasy but she liked Chapter 1. Now I just need to make the other 36 chapters equally good. I think I can, it’s just a question of time.
In one of my in-person meetups we got a 'lecture' from a pompous ass. He's apparently self-published some books and thinks he's the shit. Well, he's half right, he is a shit, but I'm not sure if he's THE shit or not. I'd have to read his work, first. Though he writes in the uplifting genre of divorce and suicide self-help, so I think I'll pass. Seriously, the guy make the normally-pleasant meeting a real struggle for me. He kept trying to play these dominance games and I really don't like being pushed around, verbally or non-verbally. (no, he didn't try anything physical, sadly. THAT is much more fun dealing with). The funny thing is, he's the kind of 'Type A' asshole that one of the other members in the meetup was writing a story about. Art imitates life, except no one punched the 'Type A sshole', unlike in the story.
I got a few notes on Chapter 6 as well. Possibly I’ve been too hard on that chapter. On the other hand, I apparently wanted to use ‘she’ about six times in two paragraphs so clearly more work is needed there.
I also have to do a third draft on Chapter 3 and post it up for online critiques. AND, time permitting this week, actually work on chapters 25+.
Good thing I love this.
