But there are other things I want to do as well. I want to introduce some of the Riders, some of the Rider Candidates; we'll be seeing both groups in the sequel. (yes, I'm writing a sequel, even if the original doesn't get published for a while I want to see what happens next) I want to describe all the flying creatures the Riders use to keep the peace and to keep their land free.
But all the things I want to do are complicating the things I have to do. That's what stopped me last night. I needed some time to think about writing the ending in a way that makes the reader go "Wow" and maybe makes them cry. And I don't think I can do that and put in all the things I want to do. It's a puzzle. I think I'm inclining towards a 'lean' ending that's focused on the 'musts'.
I should be done this weekend, epilogue and all. Then I'll start a copy-edit pass by reading it aloud. That should annoy and/or entertain the wife and the cats.
