Tonight the plan is work more on my dark fantasy short story for the 'Dark Tales of Lost Civilizations' anthology I'm submitting to.
In a weird way, the 'sexy sword and sorcery' story is teaching me, which is good because I have no serious plans to publish it. Since it doesn't have the same weight on it that I have put on Angel Odyssey, I feel ok about making mistakes. Making mistakes is good. It's good that I notice that they're mistakes and it seems to get that kind of sloppy writing out of my system, in a weird way.
It guess it's a warm up. Sometimes the first part of a novel (or short story) comes out almost perfect, Angel Odyssey's first chapter works pretty darn well and apart from some wordsmithing, it hasn't changed much. Other times, I front load my story with a bunch of 'telling'and then relax around page six or so and the story starts flowing naturally. Then I can go back, cut those first six pages and re-write the beginning.
Writing is fun. Maddening, but fun.
